Inside: Follow along as we check out the new Fireproof restaurant in the Short North on a fun Columbus, Ohio date night!
School just started, and parents everywhere are collectively sighing in relief. I am so ready to get back into a schedule. My favorite thing about the school season? Friday night date night. Ever since the little one was itty-bitty, we’ve been leaving her with grandma on Friday nights.
We drop her off, kiss her goodbye and head out for some kid-free fun. In the early days, that meant a few hours of uninterrupted sleep. Nowadays it means trying out new restaurants or bars, laughing and enjoying each other’s company, while protecting our marriage.
We pick her up on Saturday morning, refreshed and still in love.
Columbus, Ohio Date Night – Fireproof Short North
I had heard that a new spot was opening up in the old Fireproof building at 1026 N. High Street in the Short North, but hadn’t really thought too much about it until I read the Columbus Navigator newsletter on Wednesday. (If you don’t already subscribe to their daily email, you are totally missing out.)
I literally lay in bed every morning, just waiting for it to pop up in my Outlook, and this past Wednesday, at 6:16am it did. I’ve never met Chelsea, who usually sends out the daily email, but I feel like we’d be besties. That girl is hilarious.
And you guys.
Columbus Navigator totally trolled me.
They wrote an article about how Fireproof Short North is the “Coolest New Restaurant in Columbus” and then DIDN’T SHARE ANYTHING ABOUT THE FOOD!!!
Not one photo. They just shared stunning pictures of the bar.
You can’t tell me it’s the coolest new restaurant in the Short North and not tell me about the food.
So at 6:17am Wednesday, I woke up my husband and told him we were heading there on Friday.
And I’m so glad we did. The Short North area is quickly gaining a reputation of “trendy hipster restaurants” but that doesn’t always translate into delicious food.
But for me, delicious food is the whole point.
Right?
I mean, after all, I’m the girl who drove an hour to go eat at a (delicious) gas station. And despite being a die-hard Buckeye, I even ventured across enemy lines in search of a good bite. So trust me when I say, Fireproof Short North was delicious.
I enjoyed my meal, service and ambiance SO much that I made a reservation to return with 12 friends next week.
They killed it.
Date Night in Columbus – Fireproof Short North – THE VIBE
The bar is stunning.
They have a variety of tables.
They have space for larger parties, too!
I really loved this lounge in front of the bar. You can hang out while you’re waiting for your table (I highly recommend making a reservation) and even order drinks and food!

Date Night in Columbus – Fireproof Short North – THE FOOD
We had the BEST server. Her suggestions were on point, she answered all of my five million questions without rolling her eyes, and she brought fresh plates and silverware with each course. ::swoon::
Pro tip: Ask for Julia when you go.
She knows her stuff! You are welcome to order off the menu, but the best way to enjoy dining off their tapas menu is to let them create an experience for you. Julia asked us if we’d like her help choosing dishes and we left it completely up to her. She asked if there was anything that jumped out at us as a must try dish, or anything that we’d like to stay away from or any food allergies.
It’s also worth noting that there is a wide variety of prices on the menu so you can also let them know if you’re on a budget or in the mood to celebrate.
Drinks start at $5. Small plates start at $6. There is also a $17 cocktail and a $118 Wagyu Tomahawk Steak (33oz!!!). It’s up to you.
I let her know my husband was allergic to fish, so the monkfish and hamachi tacos were out, and that I had a thing for baba ghanoush, so I’d love to try that dish. Everything else we left up to her.
We were too stuffed to check out dessert, so you’re on your own there. Let me know if you make it to dessert and send me a photo of what you ordered!
We had a fabulous Columbus, Ohio date night at Fireproof Short North. I literally can’t wait to go back – I’ve already have plans to celebrate a friend’s birthday there next week!
Coming soon – HAPPY HOUR! I’ll let you know when I get more details.
pin me!
I’ve had my eye on that building for a long time, I cannot wait to try it!
Get dessert and let me know what you think!
