Inside: Check out our dreamy stay at Cherry Ridge Retreat. If you’re looking for a romantic Hocking Hills “Cabin for 2” weekend getaway, this is it!
We’re parents. Which means we desperately need time away. And also that we don’t have much time to get away.
It’s a problem that most parents know all too well.
Luckily for us, Hocking Hills, the scenic region of Southeastern Ohio is only about an hour and half away from Columbus. Which means it’s totally perfect for a quick weekend getaway. We were celebrating our anniversary, so we really wanted a romantic Hocking Hills “Cabin for 2”.
So when Cherry Ridge Retreat reached out and asked if we’d like to spend the night in one of their luxury cabins in Hocking Hills, it sounded perfect.
We packed up some wine, charcuterie, and a few other nibbles in our our favorite picnic basket, and away we went!
Their cabins are located just a few miles from some of Hocking Hill’s most famous sites, like Old Man’s Cave, Conkel’s Hollow, and Cedar Falls. The grounds are beautiful – over 140 private acres that include hiking trails, fishing ponds and waterside gazebos.
Romantic Hocking Hills “Cabin For 2” Getaway
In our welcome email, Cherry Ridge Retreat had explained that because of their location, they didn’t recommend us relying on our GPS system. Instead, we followed the directions that they provided. We turned off our phones and decided we’d keep them off for the rest of our getaway.
After our scenic drive to Hocking Hills, we were eager to check out our cabin and spend some time relaxing. We were booked at the Boat House.
The Boat House was gorgeous. While it was perfect for our Hocking Hills “Cabin for 2” getaway, it does have enough space for 2 adults and 2 children. (King size bed plus a queen size sleeper sofa.)
This cabin was located on their large lake with a private dock and gazebo area.
To our surprise, our cabin also featured a private sauna, hot tub, and a darling row boat on the lake. A row boat. On the private lake. What else could you possibly want from a romantic Hocking Hills cabin?!
When we saw the row boat, both my husband and I started singing “Sha la la la la la….” because it totally reminded us of that scene from Little Mermaid when Sebastian is trying to gently nudge Prince Eric to “kiss the girl.”
Did I tell you that we’re parents?
The outdoor gazebo area also had a really cool bar set up. We enjoyed a glass of wine here, before we explored the property.
Outside, we spied a hammock and private picnic area. There was also a cool fire pit area, with two comfy Adirondack chairs. We sat there for a bit just enjoying the sounds of the forest and the breeze off the lake.
Please note: wood is available for purchase.
When we walked into the cabin, it was so cozy. The owners had left some music on for us and it was such a nice touch. We grabbed our bag, picnic basket, and bottles of wine from the car and wandered through the cabin.
Romantic Hocking Hills Cabin: What To Bring/Upgrades
In addition to bathing suits to enjoy the hot tub and sauna area, I recommend bringing everything you’d like to eat or drink on your romantic getaway. Typically, cabins provide coffee or tea, but we were told ahead of time that while they had a coffee grinder, and drip coffee machine, we needed to bring anything we’d like consume, including coffee.
I also recommend bringing a variety of nibbles. There are a few restaurants, but part of the fun of a romantic weekend is staying in.
We made dinner out of a charcuterie board.
Which really, is the best kind of dinner, if you ask me. We included a few different kinds of meats, a soft spreadable cheese, a hard parmesan cheese, cheddar, grapes, and some cut-up vegetables. I also made some crab dip at home and packed it with me. I popped it in the oven while he poured the wine.
We also love cheese boards for breakfast! I know that sounds crazy, but hear me out. It’s so easy to dawdle lazily over hunks of fresh bread, jam, and fruit. Add on whatever cheese you had leftover from dinner, and it’s a totally fancy European-style breakfast with essentially no cooking and very little cleanup. I highly recommend!
If you’re looking for even more romance, you can add on a variety of packages. Cherry Ridge Retreat has everything from couples massages, to flowers, chilled champagne and firewood bundles. They even have a “coffee connoisseur” package that includes locally roasted coffee, cute Cherry Ridge Retreat themed coffee mugs, and chocolate!
We loved our romantic Hocking Hills “Cabin for 2” getaway at Cherry Ridge Retreat. We can’t wait to go back!
